Powerful InformationPowerful Information is a UK registered charity working to empower individuals and local communities in lower income countries to tackle the root causes of poverty, injustice and environmental degradation. We work through a network of local partners to provide appropriate information, education and training, and we support grassroots initiatives that build social capital, promote social justice, and raise public awareness of important social and environmental issues.
This is our learning circle in Matene, in the north of Sierra Leone. It is here meeting in the light. Most meetings are held at night after the day's work is done. Our facilitator in Matene is Umero Sesay.
Our Programmes
Our various programmes are designed:
The link between these diverse activities is the power that information and know-how have to empower and motivate people to tackle local problems and bring about social change. Regional Focus
Our current work is focused on selected countries in West Africa and Eastern Europe where we are supporting around 25 local people in full- or part-time employment through joint projects. The work is co-ordinated by a small core team based in Milton Keynes. Since we were established in 1990 we have resourced over 70 grassroots projects in our target countries. We have also helped improve information management, communication and advocacy skills in over one hundred indigenous organisations. This work is strategic and about building for the longer term. Registered Charity
Powerful Information was awarded charitable status in 1992 and incorporated as a limited company in 2002.
