Powerful Information
Powerful Information is a British charity working to empower communities in low income countries to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice and reduce the impact of environmental degradation. We work with and through local partners to provide education and training, and we support practical grassroots initiatives that build social capital, promote social justice and raise public awareness of important social and environmental issues.
The women in Nafagi Village (Sierra Leone) presenting our partner Fatmata Sesay (GEDEW) with a chicken and palm oil after a monitoring visit. It is humbling to see just how generous really poor people can be. The women set up their learning circle in 2008 with Fatmata's help and meet regularly. They need equipment, stationery and kerosene. Would YOU like to help them?
PI’s work is co-ordinated by a small core team based in Milton Keynes and supported by seven trustees as well as freelance consultants and volunteers. We are currently working on joint projects with more than a dozen partner organisations in Eastern Europe and West Africa, and through them community-based organisations, youth clubs, farmers’ groups, schools and local authorities. Some of our partnerships go back more than a decade.
Powerful Information was set up in 1990 and awarded charitable status in 1992; we were incorporated as a limited company in 2002.
