Activities & Outreach in the UK

We have a programme of activities in the United Kingdom based mainly around our office in Bradwell Abbey and our team of volunteers and supporters. We also collaborate with a number of other British development NGOs.

Our main focus is on promoting better public understanding of the nature and reality of poverty in poor countries and the value of grassroots development. We do this primarily through seminars, workshops and talks to other groups, and through this website. We also actively lobby for a better deal for small development NGOs.

The UK Department for International Development supports a large programme of overseas aid, but very little of this goes through small British NGOs, despite the fact that they can often deliver targetted aid highly cost effectively and get to places that larger agencies rarely reach.

The photo is of one of our volunteers with a delegation of our blind colleagues from Vision for the Blind Sierra Leone, who visited us in 2011. It was taken at Bradwell Abbey and shows their very first encounter with a horse!
