Our Team

Powerful Information has a small core team (listed below) as well as trustees, consultants, volunteers and a Company Secretary.

Dr Mike Flood (Director)

Mike has a life-long interest in the environment and development and has spent 30 years in the social profit sector. He studied chemistry at university but converted to sociology in order to better understand the complex relationships between science, technology & society. He has worked as an environmental consultant (on energy policy & waste management) and as a technology lecturer and tutor with the Open University. Mike is passionate about community development and social justice, and has set up and run grassroots projects in more than a dozen countries.

Mrs Jill Chinn (Finance Director)

Jill joined the staff in 2009. She has been dealing with accounts and financial issues for many years, including 20 years as an Inspector of Taxes and more than 10 years as a treasurer in the voluntary sector, including Girlguiding UK, the Women's Institute and the District Scout Association. Jill has a long-term interest in travel and culture and has been a mentor in the Ethnic Minority Undergraduate Scheme.

Mrs Ariadna Benet Monico (Consultant)

Ariadna rejoined us in 2012 to help out with our work in Albania, where she managed an environmental education and community awareness-raising project in Berat. She is currently overseeing our Women's Education Programme in Sierra Leone. Ariadna has a science background (with degrees in chemistry and environmental science). She was our Project Officer on a major rural community development project in Lithuania in 2005-08; and before that she spent three years in Papua New Guinea working on local projects on healthcare and environmental protection. Ariadna is based in Barcelona, where she lives with her family.

Powerful Information currently has six Trustees. We have a Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer, but no Chairman. This is policy: responsibility for chairing meetings rotates around the board, with each member holding the position until the next board meeting.

Ms Shona Gentry: Shona is a freelance environmental consultant specialising in regeneration of brown field sites and environmental impact assessment. She has a background in environmental consultancy and has worked for a number of commercial companies / consultancies, including The Environ Corporation and National Grid.

Mrs Debbie Greaves: Debbie has many strings in her bow: she has been involved with several local development charities, including MK Fair Trade Forum (which she Chairs), GEMK, and the MK Global Centre (she was a Founding Director). She is an experienced teacher trainer, VSO specialist, project manager and fundraiser and has worked in the public, private and third sectors. She has spent several years working in West Africa and has travelled extensively in the developing world. Debbie has a BA in Social Science from Open University. She joined the Board in April 2012.

Mrs Susan Guiver: Susan is former Head of the Faculty for English and Media Studies at the Royal Latin School in Buckingham. She has been involved with Powerful Information since 1992 when she joined the organisation as Project Officer, a position she held until 1999. During this time, Susan managed many information projects in Central Europe. Susan became a trustee in 2000.
Mr Tom Pettitt: Tom is Head of Finance at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham, and Business Manager for two small charities, Adoption Support and PlayTrain. Previously Tom was Manager at Saltley & Nechells Law Centre and Director of Aston ITEC, and Chairman of the Board of Friends of the Earth Ltd. for six years.
Prof Robin Roy: Robin is Professor of Design and Environment at the Open University. He joined the University in 1971 and has since chaired and contributed to many courses on design, innovation and environment. His current interests are ecological design and sustainable development. He has written widely on these and related subjects.
Kirsty Ternent: Kirsty is a Research & Enterprise Administrator at the OU and has a back ground in the Arts and Museum Management. She joined our Board in July 2014. Kirsty is no stranger to PI she worked as our Project Officer for two years (2009-2011). In this capacity she managed education projects in Albania and Sierra Leone, and made a number of visits to meet with partners and beneficiaries.

We would like to acknowledge here the enormous debt we owe to our Trustees. The Curricula Vitae of all members of our team are available on request.
